What is an Automotive Flywheel Assembly?
A flywheel assembly is a precision-engineered rotating disc mounted between the engine crankshaft and the clutch system. It stores rotational energy, smoothens power delivery from the engine to the transmission, dampens combustion-cycle vibrations, and allows the starter motor to crank the engine via a toothed ring gear.
In heavy commercial vehicles and high-mileage applications, the flywheel assembly plays a critical role in maintaining drivetrain stability, reducing gear-shift shock, and extending the service life of the clutch and transmission components.

How We Manufacture Flywheel Assemblies
Every Kaneri flywheel assembly follows a rigorous 6-stage manufacturing process designed to deliver dimensional accuracy, surface integrity, and long-term durability.
Sand Casting
Raw flywheel blanks are produced using the sand casting method with premium grey or SG iron. This process ensures a dense, homogeneous material structure capable of withstanding the high rotational stresses and thermal loads experienced in automotive applications.
CNC Machining & Boring
Cast blanks are precision-machined on CNC turning and boring centres to achieve exact dimensional tolerances. Critical surfaces — including the clutch face, crankshaft mounting face, and ring gear seat — are finished to tight Ra (surface roughness) specifications.
Ring Gear Pouring & Forming
Ring gear bars are rolled and welded into a circular configuration to match the required tooth diameter. The steel composition and ring geometry are selected based on the vehicle application to ensure correct tooth engagement with the starter pinion.
Ring Gear Fitting
The ring gear is heated and interference-fit onto the flywheel body at precise minor diameter tolerances. This thermal shrink-fit process ensures a permanent, rattle-free bond between ring gear and flywheel — a critical requirement for reliable engine starting.
Dynamic Balancing
Each completed flywheel assembly is dynamically balanced to minimize residual imbalance to within OEM-specified tolerances. Dynamic balancing eliminates vibration transfer to the drivetrain, reduces bearing wear, and ensures smooth engine operation across all RPM ranges — especially important for high-speed commercial vehicle engines.
Quality Control & Final Inspection
Before dispatch, every flywheel undergoes a comprehensive battery of quality checks: Vickers hardness testing, metallurgical microstructure analysis, Disc Thickness Variation (DTV) measurement, surface finish inspection, and final dimensional verification. Only components meeting all tolerance parameters are approved for shipment.

Looking for Flywheel Assembly?
Kaneri Industries is one of India’s leading IATF 16949-certified Automotive Flywheel Assembly Manufacturers, headquartered in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Founded in 2000, we manufacture precision flywheel assemblies, ring gears, brake discs, and related automotive components for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks. We supply OEM and aftermarket customers across India and in 10+ export markets including the USA, UK, Germany, and Russia.
A single mass flywheel (SMF) is a solid, one-piece rotating disc used in most conventional vehicles. It is robust, low-maintenance, and cost-effective — ideal for commercial vehicles and high-mileage applications. A dual mass flywheel (DMF) consists of two connected masses with a spring-damper system in between, offering better vibration isolation for modern diesel passenger cars. Kaneri Industries specializes in single mass flywheel assemblies for a wide range of vehicles.
Kaneri Industries manufactures flywheel assemblies using premium-grade grey iron or SG (Spheroidal Graphite) iron through the sand casting method. Grey iron is selected for its excellent machinability, vibration damping properties, and cost-effectiveness. SG iron is used where higher tensile strength and impact resistance are required. The ring gear is manufactured from high-carbon steel and interference-fit onto the flywheel body.
Kaneri flywheel assemblies are produced using premium iron alloys, sand casting, CNC precision machining, and dynamic balancing. This combination results in superior structural strength, accurate dimensions, and minimal residual imbalance. The assemblies are engineered to maintain clutch face flatness and ring gear engagement precision over hundreds of thousands of kilometres, making them the preferred choice for high-mileage commercial fleets and long-haul trucks.
Dynamic balancing corrects residual mass imbalance in a rotating flywheel by measuring and removing small amounts of material at specific locations. An unbalanced flywheel creates centrifugal forces that cause engine vibration, accelerate bearing and seal wear, and reduce drivetrain efficiency. At Kaneri Industries, every flywheel assembly is dynamically balanced to OEM-specified tolerances, ensuring smooth engine operation, reduced NVH (noise, vibration, harshness), and extended component life.
Yes. Kaneri Industries supplies flywheel assemblies for a wide spectrum of vehicle types including passenger cars (Honda Civic, Mahindra Bolero), light commercial vehicles (Tata Ace, Tata 407), heavy commercial trucks (Tata Prima, Ashok Leyland Hino, M.A.N.), and CNG buses. Our range covers 25+ vehicle models across 6 major makes with tooth counts from 110 to 173 and diameters up to 430 mm.
Yes. As a flexible flywheel assembly manufacturer, Kaneri Industries accepts custom orders based on client-supplied engineering drawings, CAD files, or OEM part numbers. We can develop new flywheel assemblies for niche applications, prototype runs for new vehicle models, and private-label production for aftermarket distributors. Our engineering team reviews drawings and provides DFM (Design for Manufacturability) feedback before production.
Every Kaneri flywheel assembly undergoes a comprehensive quality inspection before dispatch: Vickers hardness testing on the clutch face and ring gear seat, metallurgical microstructure analysis for material integrity verification, Disc Thickness Variation (DTV) measurement, surface roughness (Ra) inspection, final dimensional checks against engineering drawings, and dynamic balance verification. All processes are governed by our IATF 16949-certified quality management system.
To select the correct flywheel assembly, share the vehicle make, model, engine type, gearbox model, and OEM part number (if available) with our sales team. Alternatively, send us a technical drawing or a sample component. Kaneri Industries will cross-reference our range or develop a custom solution matching your load, torque, clutch size, and tooth count requirements. Contact us at admin@kaneriautoparts.com or call +91 9850091600.
